Moving in Solidarity

An event that uplifts and celebrates the work of Healthy and Safe Environments (HSE) and Communities of Opportunity (COO) to hold space to learn about youth organizing activities and strategies for combatting institutional and systemic racism. Join us to move in solidarity across race, culture, geography, and issue area to align, dream and create transformative change.

Values

Acknowledge: We condemn the legacy of violence and harm caused by oppressive systems on individuals and communities throughout history and now. We acknowledge the strength, resilience and beauty in our shared story.

Listen: We create safe and brave space where people are heard, seen, accepted and healed, in direct resistance to the dehumanizing work of racism and systemic oppression.

Learn: Make space in the room to find comfort in discomfort. An open door to self-evolution brings us one step closer to transformative change

Move in Solidarity: We are not alone - together we struggle, and together we must dismantle, heal and love our way toward more equitable outcomes.

"Solidarity is hard to show in a picture because it is a moving and ebbing process that changes as people begin to solidify and find community in others. However, I feel that the act of love is one way in which we show solidarity. Love not in romanized terms but love by choosing to show up, choosing to look up, and choosing to quell your voice to make room for others. I took this picture in early 2020 and I feel that this picture models what I want my solidarity to look like, choosing to see life through a lens of love." - Syd Walter (Youth Planning Team)
